New Prodigy from PMC

20 February 2024

PMC Speakers has a strong performance-led design ethos, engineering ultra-high-resolution loudspeakers for the most demanding clients and environments – from composers’ music rooms to commercial recording studios. PMC firmly believes every listener should benefit from this ethos and performance and new Prodigy does just that.

Designed and built in-house here in Britain, Prodigy comprises two models: the compact prodigy1 standmount and the floorstanding prodigy5. Both deliver staggering clarity and depth of bass seemingly beyond their size, thanks to ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) technology – just one of the innovative technologies packed into these speakers.

Even tempered and easy to drive, they’ll match with high-quality electronics and, with their consistent characteristics and tonal balance, you can also easily mix and match any PMC speakers to create immersive audio systems for the latest surround music formats. And no pondering over finishes: prodigy range is one colour – silk black, and a very tasteful one at that.

Prodigy5 (£1995) is slimline and compact but powerful, taking up no more space than bookshelf speakers on stands with its small footprint, yet packed with verve, fun and rhythm. It combines a sweet, open treble with wide dispersion for a vast sweet-spot and really cohesive listening. Vocals are transparent and natural; bass is refined and surprisingly powerful, due largely to the extended ATL with twin Laminair vents for smoother airflow. The prodigy5 will blend into any space, with the option of grilles for those who like their speakers even more discreet.

These are one of the best we’ve heard at this level, fantastic all-rounders.

Prodigy1
(£1250) is ideal for small to medium-sized rooms. Closely related to PMC’s compact nearfield monitors, a reference in recording and broadcast facilities worldwide, prodigy1 delivers all the good stuff prodigy5 does – sweet, open top end and natural midrange, wide soundstage and nimble, cohesive presentation. And though compact, it still contains a full-size Advanced Transmission Line and Laminair technology that delivers deep, fast, hard-hitting bass.

The prodigy1 has been designed to match well with everything from modest amplification to high-end, high-power systems, offering exceptional clarity while taking up minimal space and can be used on a stand or furniture.
